There are really two types of basic camping that we use. One type is inside of the parks/conservation areas and the other is in nearby camps located outside of the destinations. Each has its own advantages. Outside of the destinations, there are areas set aside for camping. Often in conjuntion with simple lodges. These are protected areas where there will not be any animals wandering (excepting perhaps some monkeys). The advantage is that the facilities are generally nicer. Most often you can visit the lodge bar for refreshments and a snack, or take a swim in the swimming pool that many have on premises. The shower and toilet facilities are nicer. The other is inside of the safari destinations, where animals are free to wander. They do not bother the tents (as long as you do not have food inside). There is a fenced in area where the food for the safari is protected and prepared. There is a slight risk if going to the toilet alone at night, so it is best to take precautions. During the daytime, the animals usually will not make themselves known (although occasionally an elephant may be bold enough to wander into the camp). Do not expect more than a drop toilet and cold water shower. On a basic camping safari, we bring a chef to prepare your meals. Our staff will set up the tents. All you need to do is to relax and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.
